Confessions of a Dancewhore - Trafalgar Studios
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
MICHAEL Twaits and Pride London 2010 are presenting Twaits’ solo show Confessions of a Dancewhore at Trafalgar Studios – from Monday, June 21 to Saturday, July 3, 2010.
Fusing comedy, burlesque, drag and new media performance, Confessions of A Dancewhore explores the contradictions and clichés of contemporary British queer life.
Politics and pop culture meet in what is described as a foul-mouthed theatrical cabaret and a vibrant exploration of what it feels like to be ‘the other’.
The show has been developed in collaboration with actor, deviser and cabaret performer Lucy Ellinson, a regular collaborator of Third Angel, Unlimited Theatre, Slunglow and Chris Goode, and was supported during its early development by renowned veteran of queer theatre Bette Bourne.
Michael Twaits was one of Time Out‘s New Talents for 2008. He is a performance artist, actor and writer, and his work focuses on combining live art, cabaret and theatre. He has created two solo works, Confessions of a Dancewhore and Icons (Soho Theatre, 2009), and is currently developing a new piece, The One You Love.
As an actor, his theatre credits include Elegies For Punks and Raging Queens (as Patrick), La Ronde (all male roles), Madame De Sade (The Marquis De Sade), Murder In The Cathedral, The Importance of Being Earnest and The Accrington Pals. And as a director, his credits include Attempts On Her Life, Decadence and More Light. He is also developing his comedy Icons for a six part TV format.
