In Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge, an old adversary threatens the city of Rome, which calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But famine also threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people.
Olivier Award-winning actress Deborah Findlay has previously appeared at the Donmar Warehouse in John Gabriel Borkman, The Cut and The Vortex as well as Madame de Sade, part of the Donmar’s year-long residency at Wyndham’s Theatre.
Although Hadley Fraser is best known for playing Marius and, later, Javert in the West End production of Les Miserables, he recently starred in The Machine, directed by Josie Rourke, for the Manchester International Festival. He also appeared as an army officer in the recent film adaptation of Les Miserables.
Mark Gatiss previously appeared at the Donmar Warehouse in Josie Rourke’s 2012 production of The Recruiting Officer. His credits elsewhere include 55 Days (Hampstead Theatre), Season’s Greetings (National Theatre) and All About My Mother (Old Vic). He also plays Mycroft Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock and was co-creator and star of The League of Gentlemen.
Although Birgitte Hjort Sørensen is best known for playing Katrine Fonsmark in the BBC series Borgen, she has starred as Roxie Hart in Chicago, both in Copenhagen and the West End.
