Daily Denials of Wisdom - Tara Studio

Daily Denials of Wisdom

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

VAYU Naidu will perform Daily Denials of Wisdom at south London’s Tara Studio – on Saturday, March 13, 2010.

Naidu offers a new selection of tales that, according to a press release, will take you travelling to the familiar unknown, or – the Daily Denials of Wisdom. Her fare of stories – inspired by the inner, mystical Sufi way of being – include wisecracks, witty lovers, scoundrels and saints.

Naidu’s art of storytelling is derived from the Indic oral tradition and its energy comes quite simply through the telling, not reading, of a story. Storytelling for Naidu is about composing oral literature.

Her work always looks for the possibility of insight and wisdom, enlightenment and understanding, both for the artist and the audience on the journey with her. She draws on ancient and traditional stories but always tells them with a contemporary and refreshing twist.

Naidu first discovered storytelling in her native Chennai and along the South Eastern coast in India, and later studied in England at the University of Leeds, writing her doctorate on Indian Performance Oral traditions and their interpretations in contemporary western theatre.

Her work as a playwright has earned her awards nominations for new writing and her radio play There Comes a Karma was directed by BBC Radio 4’s Vanessa Whitburn (The Archers).
