Dying For It - Jack Studio Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

THE Actor Works Company is presenting Dying For It by Moira Buffini, writer of the 2014 Oliver Award-winning Handbagged, at the Jack Studio Theatre – from Tuesday, October 21 to Saturday, November 8, 2014.

Freely adapted from Nikolai Erdman’s The Suicide, this satirical, bitterly funny and tragic farce was written in 1929, but was banned by Stalin before its dress rehearsal.

Will he die for truth? For love? For God? For art? Or will he die on his own terms?

Semyon is unemployed and lives in the hallway of an urban slum in 1920s Soviet Russia. By his own admission, he is a maggot, not a man, and decides to end his miserable life. Word quickly spreads and his comrades come running to his side… each intent on persuading him to die for their cause.

Tickets: £14, £11 concessions – available from the box office on 0333 666 3366 or online at www.brockleyjack.co.uk/ (£1.50 fee for online bookings only).

Time: 7.45pm.
