Ellis adds extra date to Shaw Theatre concert series

KERRY Ellis has once again added an extra date to her London concert series, Kerry Ellis Celebrates The Great British Songbook, at the Shaw Theatre. As well as June 20, 21 and 25, the popular West End star will perform on Friday, June 26, 2009.

Previously Posted: Due to phenomenal public demand, Kerry Ellis has added an extra date to her London concert series, Kerry Ellis Celebrates The Great British Songbook, at the Shaw Theatre. The extra date – Thursday, June 25 – follows the previously announced June 20 and June 21, 2009.

The intimate shows celebrating the very best British music from the worlds of theatre, film and pop, will feature stunning new arrangements of works by many of Britain’s leading composers and lyricists, including Noel Coward, Lionel Bart, Anthony Newley, John Barry, Don Black, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Kate Bush and Queen.

Ellis was a member of the original London cast of the popular musical Wicked – first as understudy to Idina Menzel’s Elphaba and eventually as the fabled green witch in her own right. She was subsequently named Best Takeover in a Role in the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Awards, voted for my members of the public. After reprising the role for six months on Broadway, she returned to the London production, where she’ll continue in the role of Elphaba until May 9, 2009.

Her other numerous credits include the West End production of We Will Rock You, in which she originated the role of Meat; Chess in Concert, in which she played Svetlana alongside Josh Groban, Adam Pascal and Marti Pellow (Royal Albert Hall); Les Misérables (as Fantine); the national tour of Miss Saigon (as Ellen); and My Fair Lady, in which she understudied Martine McCutcheon’s Eliza Dolittle (National Theatre and Theatre Royal Drury Lane).

Earlier this year she released her debut CD Wicked In Rock which was produced by Brian May. She also sang Defying Gravity with May and Rufus Taylor on the 2008 Royal Variety Performance.

More concerts with major singers will be announced throughout 2009 in this special Great British Songbook season, devised by Neil Marcus.
