Based on the stories of Russian author Sholem Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof is set in Tsarist Russia in 1905, and tells the story of Tevye, a dairyman and old-fashioned father who dreams of seeing his daughters married in the traditional Jewish manner. However, revolution is in the air and the young follow their hearts and not the advice of their fathers….

Fiddler on the Roof has a book by Joseph Stein, choreography by Jerome Robbins, music and lyrics by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and features songs such as Tradition, Matchmaker, Matchmaker and If I Were a Rich Man.

The show premiered on Broadway in 1964 and went on to win nine Tony Awards. In 1967, it opened in the West End – at Her Majesty’s Theatre – and in 1971, a big screen version starred Topol. The new production which is directed by Lindsay Posner, ran from November 30, 2006 to January 20, 2007 at Sheffield.

His other London credits include Art, Guys and Dolls, Angels in America, Feelgood, Follies, The Exonerated, Chicago and The Merchant of Venice and Assassins, both of which won him Olivier Awards.

Goodman and Posner have previously worked together on Moliere’s The Hypochondriac (Almeida) and Pinter’s The Birthday Party (Birmingham Rep and West End); while Posner’s many other directorial credits include Fool for Love, Tom and Viv, Romance, Oleanna and Sexual Perversity in Chicago.

Also reprising their roles in Fiddler on the Roof will be Beverly Klein (Jerry Springer The Opera), Julie Legrand (See How They Run), and Victor McGuire (Chicago).

The company also includes Juliet Alderdice, Natasha Broomfield, Tomm Coles, Steve Fortune, Damian Humbley, Gareth Kennerley, Vincent Pirillo, Alex Ruocco, Alexandra Silber and Frances Thorburn.
