FiRST BiTES February/March 2007 - Oval House

Confessions of a Dancewhore

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

FiRST BiTES is the Oval House Theatre’s ongoing series of works-in-progress that creates the space for artists to experiment and discover, and gives the audience a chance to be a part of their creative process.

Chet Baker: Speedball – February 16 and February 17 at 8pm.

Director Nicholai Labarrie, writer Mark O’Thomas and jazz pianist and composer Andrea Vicari present a musical and theatrical response to the life of Chet Baker.

Through an exploration of Baker’s unfinished memoir, interviews, documentary film footage, song lyrics, photographs and music scores, a portrait of a cultural icon will be developed.

The cast includes Andy Davies (trumpeter), Glenn MacNamara and Michael Moreland.

Tickets: £4. Free post-show discussion on February 17.

Confessions Of A Dancewhore by Michael Twaits – February 23 and February 24 at 8pm.

From the camp club cliché, to political activism, to the underground scene, Confessions Of A Dancewhore is a vibrant journey through today’s queer community.

Fusing together theatrical styles – stand-up, comedy, musical, dance and multimedia – the piece utilises the live elements of theatre to portray a personal story that questions how to fit in to society and whether we should want to.

Tickets: £4. Free post-show discussion on February 23.

The Pleasure Project by Alister Lownie – March 2 and March 3 at 8pm.

In the deepest recesses of the mind, there is pleasure so pure and so absolute that its discovery will turn a life inside out. A pleasure that includes everything you have ever enjoyed, and promises to better it all. A pleasure that threatens everything you know, and everything you hope for. A pleasure which challenges your humanity. We’re trying to find it for you….

Tickets: £4. Free post-show discussion on March 2.
