First Lady Suite - Union Theatre

First Lady Suite

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

RICHARD Jones for Take That Theatre is presenting the London premiere of Michael John LaChiusa’s First Lady Suite at Southwark’s Union Theatre – from September 29 to October 17, 2009.

First Lady Suite, the award-winning off-Broadway musical, takes audiences into the hearts and minds of histories foremost first ladies: Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy and Mamie Eisenhower, providing an imaginative and irreverent look behind the scenes of the White House, and the women that live behind its walls.

The award-winning score by five-time Tony nominee Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, Marie Christine, Hello Again), is described as a humorous, heartfelt tribute to a treasured national institution.

First Lady Suite is directed by Rania Jumaily whose credits include Popcorn (Edinburgh Festival) and The Bully Composition (Southwark Playhouse). Casting will be announced shortly.

Michael John LaChiusa has seldom been performed on this side of the Atlantic. A key figure in the post-Sondheim era of off-Broadway composer-lyricists, he challenges, entertains and moves audiences with his humorous and heart-felt forms of musical theatre.

Take Note Theatre’s previous work includes Jet Set Go!.

Tickets: £13, £10 concessions, available on 0207 261 9876.
