FULL casting has been announced for the world premiere of Gods and Monsters, which runs at Southwark Playhouse for a five-week season – from Thursday, February 5 to Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Ian Gelder, Kevan Lannister in the epic TV drama series Game of Thrones, plays Frankenstein director James Whale and Will Austin is gardener Clayton Boone, who becomes the object of Whale’s obsession.

Ian Gelder’s distinguished stage career includes playing Marcus Andronicus in Lucy Bailey’s acclaimed, ultra-gory productuon of Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe, Jack Bryant in Roots (Donmar Warehouse), Kent in Michael Attenborough’s King Lear (Ameida Theatre), The Low Road (Royal Court Theatre), and Larry in Company (Sheffield Crucible).

On television, Gelder has also appeared in Mr Selfridge, Endeavour and Psychoville.

Will Austin, who has just finished filming Mission Impossible 5 with Tom Cruise, has also appeared in 24: Die Another Day alongside Kiefer Sutherland and Danny Boyle’s Babylon. Gods and Monsters marks his professional London stage debut.

Gelder and Austin are joined in the cast of Gods and Monsters by Lachele Carl (The Honourable Woman, Dr Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, TV, A Streetcar Named Desire, Young Vic); Will Rastall (Serius in Game of Thrones); and newcomer Joey Phillips.

Gods and Monsters is based on the novel Father of Frankenstein by Christopher Bram – the same source material as for the 1998 Oscar-winning movie, Gods And Monsters.

Presented by Danielle Tarento in association with Jason Haigh-Ellery, Gods and Monsters is directed by Russell Labey, with set and costume design by Jason Denvir, lighting by Mike Robertson, sound by John Chambers and projection design by Louise Rhoades-Brown.
