ON JULY 26, 2010, Lauren Samuels, a finalist in BBC TV’s Over the Rainbow, will take over the role of Sandy from Siobhan Dillon (How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?) in the hit musical Grease.

Samuels, who will continue in the role until January 22, 2011, will join former pop star Noel Sullivan as Danny.

Talking about her forthcoming role in Grease, Samuels said: “I am so unbelievably excited to be joining the wonderful cast of Grease. It was one of the first musicals I was taken to see as a young child and so to be given the opportunity to recreate the iconic role of Sandy and to make my West End debut in the show is a dream come true. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!”

Billed as the original High-School musical, Grease has book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and songs that include Look at Me I’m Sandra Dee, We Go Together, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Grease Lightnin’, Grease Is the Word, Summer Nights and You’re the One That I Want.

Although losing out to Danielle Hope, who won the coveted role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s revival of The Wizard of Oz, Samuels is the second contestant to be cast in a London show. The first, semi-finalist Stephanie Fearon, will appear in Smokey Joe’s Cafe at the Landor Theatre (July 13 to August 22, 2010).

Grease is currently booking at the Piccadilly Theatre until September 3, 2011.
