ROSAMUND Pike and Tim McInnerny will star in Henrik Ibsen’s 1890 classic Hedda Gabler, which visits Richmond Theatre (March 15 to March 20, 2010) as part of a short regional tour. A West End transfer is expected.

Returning from honeymoon and already bored with her marriage, headstrong Hedda finds herself caught between the brilliant but dissolute Eilert Loevborg and the clutches of the predatory Judge Brack. Thus she embarks on a path of folly that can have only one outcome…

Pike’s theatre credits include the title role in the Royal Court’s production of Terry Johnson’s 2003 play, Hitchcock Blonde, which subsequently transferred to the West End; the London premiere of Brian Friel’s Performances (Wilton’s Music Hall); Summer and Smoke (Apollo Theatre); Gaslight (Old Vic) and Madame de Sade Wyndham’s Theatre).

On screen she has appeared in Doom, Pride and Prejudice (as Jane Bennet), The Libertine and Die Another Day.

Although McInnerny will always be remembered as Blackadder‘s Lord Percy and Captain Darling, his many other screen credits include Spooks, Hustle and Inspector George Gently, while on stage he has appeared in The Rocky Horror Show, Hamlet and Othello.

A Theatre Royal Bath production, Hedda Gabler will be directed by former Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director Adrian Noble, whose credits include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Kean, A Woman of No Importance and Summer and Smoke.

Hedda Gabler was last seen in the West End in 2005. Directed by Richard Eyre and starring Eve Best, it went on to win four Olivier Awards, including Best Actress, Best Director and Best Revival.

The tour, which kicks off in Bath, will also visit Brighton, Nottingham and Oxford.
