I Do! I Do! - Riverside Studios

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

I DO! I Do!, a new production of a Broadway classic, runs at Riverside Studios (Studio 3) from December 5 to December 7, 2012.

With book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, the creative duo behind The Fantasticks, I Do! I Do! tells the story of Michael and Agnes and the ups and downs of their 50 year marriage.

The two-hander, inspired by Jan de Hartog’s play The Fourposter, invites the audience into the couple’s bedroom, where the joys, pains, trials and tribulations of their life together is played out around their four poster bed.

I Do! I Do! was the first two-hander musical to appear on Broadway when it premiered in 1966. It has since been widely performed across America, including a production in Minnesota that ran for over 20 years.

I Do! I Do! stars Superstar competitor Tim Prottley-Jones and Lara Bianca Pilcher.

The production is directed by Matthew Gould, whose recent credits include The Sword and the Dope (King’s Head Theatre), Elegant Fowl (Old Red Lion), Worth a Flutter (New Red Lion) and The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Arts Theatre). His production of new play, Baby Jesus Freak, won the People’s Choice Award at Preston Fringe Festival in 2010.

Gould is also known for his work as a choreographer and last Autumn worked on the critically acclaimed Ragtime at the Landor Theatre.

Presented by Arts House International, I Do! I Do! has choreography by Cristian Valle, musical direction by Matt Abrams, musical supervision by Ben Holder, set design by Rebecca Brower and costume design by Harriet Morris.
