Imagine This - Peter Polycarpou reprises role

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

PETER Polycarpou will lead the cast of Imagine This, a new musical set in Poland during World War II, when it opens at the New London Theatre on November 19, 2008 (previews from November 4).

Imagine This focuses on a group of actors in the Warsaw Ghetto who stage plays to inspire hope and optimism within their community. However, with rumours of the Final Solution in the air, their play merges with the reality they are trying to escape, and a dramatic love story unfolds.

Imagine This premiered at the Theatre Royal Plymouth last summer with Polycarpou in the role of Daniel Warshowsky, the role he will be reprising in the West End.

Polycarpou’s numerous West End credits include Les Misérables (original cast), Miss Saigon (he created the role of John), The Phantom Of The Opera (as the Phantom) and, most recently, All About My Mother (Old Vic). On television, he’s well known for his roles in Birds of a Feather and Sunburn.

Polycarpou will be joined in the cast of Imagine This by Leila Benn Harris (as Warshowsky’s daughter Rebecca), whose theatre credits also include The Phantom of the Opera (as Christine), as well as Fame and Evita; and Simon Gleeson (Adam) who has previously appeared on stage in The Far Pavilions and Southwark Fair.

Timothy Sheader, Artistic Director of the Open Air Theatre, directs a cast that also includes Bernard Lloyd, Richard Cotton, Michael Matus, Gary Milner, Steven Serlin, Sevan Stephan, Sarah Ingram and Cameron Leigh.

Imagine This has music by Shuki Levy, lyrics by David Goldsmith and a book by Glenn Berenbeim.
