In My Name - Trafalgar Studio 2
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
JAMES Alexandrou will make his West End debut in Steven Hevey’s In My Name which transfers to Trafalgar Studio 2 following a sold-out run at Islington’s Old Red Lion Theatre. Billed as a visceral and terrifying dark comedy, it runs from Tuesday, July 1 to Saturday July 19, 2008.
It’s not easy being optimistic in London but on the day after winning the bid for the Olympics the world suddenly felt a lot brighter. And then a bomb went off…
In My Name is described as a bold and funny insight into the consequences of allowing life to pass you by… because no matter how much you bury your head in the sand, the world has a funny way of forcing itself right through your front door.
Joining Alexandrou in the cast will be Ray Panthaki, Kevin Watt and Adeel Akhtar.
Although Alexandrou is best known for his ten year stint as Martin Fowler in the BBC soap EastEnders, he has also appeared on BBC Radio 4’s The Homecoming with an all-star cast that included Michael Gambon, Rupert Graves, Samuel West, Gina Mckee and Pinter himself.
Panthaki’s theatre credits include Tanika Gupta’s Gladiator Games for which he received a 2006 TMA nomination for best supporting performance, and Christopher Shinn’s Where Do We Live (Royal Court). On screen, he has appeared in 28 Days Later, Kidulthood and Ali G Inda House.
Watt’s theatre credits include Trainspotting (as Renton) and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (as Billy Bibbit). It was during the latter that he met Mark Curtis and they formed the theatre company Yaller Skunk which produces In My Name. They also co-produced and starred in Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me and Neville’s Island, which transferred to Dubai.
Akhtar’s TV credits include Law and Order and Conviction in the US and Britz and Linda La Plante’s Trial and Retribution in the UK. He starred in the short film The Pope’s Face which won the Audience Choice Award at the Millbrook International 3-Minute Film Festival; and recently worked opposite Guy Pearce in the forthcoming feature film Traitor.
In My Name is designed and co-produced by Georgia Lowe (Fanny and Faggot, Thin Toes), with sound design by BAFTA award winning Damian Reynolds (The Mighty Boosh), lighting design by Lawrence Stromski, and costume by Vicky Povey.
