Joseph and a new song
Feature by Lizzie Guilfoyle
TONIGHT (July 17, 2007), Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens at the Adelphi Theatre, with Any Dream Will Do winner Lee Mead making his West End debut as a leading man.
The show will also include a new song specially written by Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice – King of My Heart. Inspired by Elvis Presley’s greatest hits, the lyrics incorporate a number of his well known song titles.
And not surprisingly, it will be sung by Pharaoh (Dean Collinson), the Elvis-styled ‘king’ of Egypt – in Act Two, immediately after Song of the King. King of My Heart is also expected to feature on the new Joseph cast recording which is due for release later this year.
Meanwhile, from July 25, 2007, the role of Narrator will be played by Fiona Reyes at Wednesday matinees. Preeya Kalidas (Bombay Dreams) will, however, appear in all other weekly performances.
And Lee Mead will be on holiday for the weeks commencing January 14 and 21, March 10 and May 5, 2008, when his understudy James Bisp is expected to take over the role.
In order to meet ticket demand, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has already extended its booking period – to June 7, 2008.
