Julius Caesar

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

IMMERSION Theatre is presenting Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, at the Brockley Jack Studio Theatre – from Tuesday, February 28 to Saturday, March 10, 2012.

Set amongst the sordid streets of a dystopian bohemia, audiences are confronted with the remains of a once strong and powerful Rome. According to the press release, Immersion Theatre graphically brings to life this gritty, gothic underworld with a focus on power, sex and morality. While a cast of young talent brings an edgy, raw, almost uncomfortable realism to the piece.

James Tobias and Roderick Morgan direct a cast that includes Anna Bond, Liam Mulvey, Rochelle Parry, James Clifford, Nick Bechman, Anthony Pinnick, Tom Bates, Jodie Raven, Jasmine Desmond, Frank Teale, Eleanor Burke, Chris Leaney.

“This is undoubtedly my favourite Shakespeare piece … I’ve always been fascinated by each conspirators’ motivation for savagely destroying Caesar, all are so individual and in their minds and context of their situations, so logical and understandable that it strikes an unnerving chord and makes the most logical amongst us question our true boundaries and nature.”

Tickets: £12, £10 concessions – available from www.brockleyjack.co.uk

Time: Tuesday to Saturday at 7.45pm.

NB: The production contains scenes of strong violence and is suitable for over 14s.
