Rock of Ages - Shayne Ward joins cast
Story by Jack Foley
SHAYNE Ward, X Factor winner in 2005, will join Justin Lee Collins in the cast of Rock of Ages, which opens at the Shaftesbury Theatre on September 27, 2011 (previews from August 31).
Popstar Ward, who will play disillusioned rock bad boy Stacee Jaxx, has released three albums since winning the ITV talent show.
Previously Posted: Justin Lee Collins is the first cast member to be confirmed for the forthcoming musical Rock Of Ages at the Shaftesbury Theatre this summer.
The TV presenter will play ageing hippy and bar owner, Dennis Dupree.
It’s not Collins’ first time in the West End, either, as he made his stage debut in 2009 as Mr Cellophane in Chicago.
Filmed as part of a series for Sky called JLC Is…, Collins starred in three performances after undergoing six weeks of intense voice training.
Rock Of Ages is based on the Broadway hit that tells the story of a small town girl who meets and falls in love with a big city rocker in Los Angeles’s most famous rock club. It is also being turned into a film starring Tom Cruise.
Commenting on the casting news, Collins said: “Being a fan of bands like Whitesnake, Foreigner, Journey and Bon Jovi, I couldn’t resist when I heard about the chance to appear in the show.
“What young lad hasn’t strummed the air guitar to the classic riffs of those poodle-haired rock bands of the 80s? Now I’ll get to do it on stage every night!”
Rock Of Ages previews from August 31 and will receive its press night on September 27.
