Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

SUSAN McFadden and Aoife Mulholland will join Sheridan Smith, Duncan James and Alex Gaumond in Jerry Mitchell’s Legally Blonde The Musical, which begins preview performances at the Savoy Theatre on December 5, 2009.

College sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods (Sheridan Smith) doesn’t take no for an answer. So when her boyfriend Warner (Duncan James) dumps her for someone serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and heads for Harvard Law! Along the way, she proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

Based on the 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde The Musical opened on Broadway in 2007, where it received seven Tony nominations and ten Drama Desk Award nominations as well as winning an Outer Critics’ Circle Award.

Susan McFadden, who will take on the role of Serena, Elle’s best friend and sorority sister, played Sandy in Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre after winning ITV’s reality show Grease is the Word. She is currently playing Milly in the touring production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

Aoife Mulholland will play Brooke, a fitness video queen who becomes Elle’s first client when she’s accused of murdering her rich elderly husband. A finalist in BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Mulholland went on to play Roxie Hart in Chicago and Maria in The Sound of Music. She also took part in Chess in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall and Dance of Desire at the Black Box, Ireland.

The cast of Legally Blonde also includes Emma Bateman, Dan Burton, Darren Carnall, Chris Ellis-Stanton, Nadine Higgin, Ibinabo Jack, Caroline Keiff, Amy Lennox, Andy Mace, Sorelle Marsh, Suzie McAdam, Matthew McKenna, Sean Mulligan, Roxanne Palmer, Sergio Priftis, Tamara Wall, Ed White, Jane McMurtrie, Sherrie Pennington, Lucy Miller, Fabian Aloise and Francis Haugen.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winning Jerry Mitchell, Legally Blonde The Musical has music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, book by Heather Hach, set design by David Rockwell, costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighting by Kenneth Posner and Paul Miller, sound by ACME Sound Partners and orchestrations by Christopher Jahnke.

Currently booking until May 23, 2010, Legally Blonde The Musical will now play Sunday performances, adding to the growing number of West End shows that are including Sundays in their performance schedules.
