Lift - Julie Atherton stars
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
LIFT, a new musical by Craig Adams and Ian Watson about love, life and loss in a London lift, will receive its world premiere at Soho Theatre, where it runs from February 1 (previews from January 30) to February 24, 2013.
Take one lift, eight strangers and 54 seconds and you have the recipe for a thousand possibilities…
The cast includes Julie Atherton (as French Teacher), Nikki Davis-Jones (Secretary), Cynthia Erivo (Lap Dancer), Jonny Fines (Ballet Dancer), Luke Kempner (Bright Young Thing), Ellie Kirk (Athletic and Wearing a Thong), George Maguire (Busker) and Robbie Towns (Tall, Dark and Handsome).
Julie Atherton is perhaps best known as the original West End Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q, a role she returned to from December 1, 2008 until the show closed on March 28, 2009.
However, she made her West End debut as Sophie in Mamma Mia!, before starring in Fame on tour and in the West End. Since then, she has starred in the award-winning musical Tomorrow Morning (Landor Theatre), Ordinary Days (Trafalgar Studios) and The Last 5 Years (Theatre Royal Haymarket).
She has just finished touring the UK as Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act, and will be playing the title role in Cinderella at the Lyric Hammersmith this Christmas.
As a founder member of the Notes from New York company she has starred in shows at the Donmar Warehouse, the Arts Theatre, Trafalgar Studios and the Duchess Theatre and has headlined both instalments of Christmas in New York at the Apollo and Lyric Theatres.
Lift will be directed by Steven Paling.
