Little Angel Theatre - Christmas 2012

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

THE LITTLE Angel Theatre has announced its schedule for Christmas 2012 and it includes Pinocchio and, for younger children, Dogs Don’t Do Ballet.

The Little Angel’s first ever adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio runs from November 17, 2012 to January 27, 2013.

Created by master puppet maker and director Peter O’Rourke (Alice in Wonderland, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me and The Mouse Queen), this action-packed production is conveyed by four multi-skilled puppeteers, actors and mask performers.

Set in 19th century Tuscany it has a darkly witty script by Angela Miguel and evocative music by Pete Flood of Bellowhead.

Suitable for ages 6 to adult.

Tickets: £14 adult, £10 children and concessions, Family Ticket £44, £5 Friday Fives at 5 pm shows, Previews (November 17 and 18) all tickets half price.

Dogs Don’t Do Ballet, for children aged 2 – 6, runs from December 5, 2012 to January 27, 2013.

Based on the popular book by Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie, Dogs Don’t Do Ballet is brought to life using ‘beautiful puppets, well-loved ballet music and dazzling comedy’.

Combining the sublime and the ridiculous it tells the story of a small dog with a big personality who just wants to be a ballerina.

Adapted by David Duffy and Andrea Sadler, Dogs Don’t Do Ballet is directed by David Duffy, with puppet design by Keith Jury and set design by Tim Sykes.

Tickets: £10 adult, £8 children and concessions.

Before the Christmas festivities begin, the Little Angel Theatre, in association with the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, is presenting The Tear Thief, adapted from the book by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy – from September 22 to November 4.

Each night, in the hours between supper and bedtime, the Tear Thief carries her waterproof, silvery sack as she steals the tears of every child who cries. But what does she do with all those tears?

A heart-warming modern fairy tale of a magical world perfectly brought to life by Little Angel’s stunning puppetry, The Tear Thief is directed by Little Angel Theatre’s Artistic Director, Peter Glanville, with music composed and performed live by James Hesford and puppeteered by Lowri James and Claire Harvey.

Tickets: £12 adult, £10 children and concessions, £5 Friday Fives at 5 pm shows, Family Gala Performance (Sunday, October 14 at 3pm) £25.

Relaxed Performances are designed for adults or children who may find it difficult to sit quietly and still for an entire performance, or who are uncomfortable with sudden lighting changes or loud noises. For the above shows they are:

The Tear Thief: Saturday, October 13 at 3.30pm.
Pinocchio: Saturday, December 1 at 2pm.
Dogs Don’t Do Ballet: Saturday, January 5 at 11.30am.

Booking for all three shows opens on August 28, 2012. A full performance schedule for all three plays is available on the Little Angel website or from the box office on 020 7226 1787.
