CHICKENSHED has announced the appointment of a new Artistic Director – Lou Stein.

In its 42 year history, Stein will be Chickenshed’s very first selected Artistic Director and the appointment of someone who is such a force within theatre is described as an extremely ambitious move.

Chickenshed’s founder, Mary Ward served as the company’s original Artistic Director.

Stein will be leading the artistic vision and direction of Chickenshed and taking it to the next chapter of what has been a remarkable journey to change people’s lives through theatre.

Stein is a highly experienced theatre professional, and is hugely respected as a director, writer and leader. Within the industry he is perhaps best known as the founder of the Gate Theatre. He also served as an inspirational and extremely successful Artistic Director at Watford Palace Theatre, establishing it as one of the country’s most successful repertory theatres.

Stein has most recently worked as a freelance director and writer, with notable successes including Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (2014-15).

His first task as Artistic Director of Chickenshed will be to oversee in the absence of silence, which runs in the Studio Theatre from April 27 to May 14, 2016.
