Macbeth - Brockley Jack Theatre

Macbeth

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

FOLLOWING their “epic and ambitious” Richard III with a company of 26 actors, theFaction is returning to the Brockley Jack Theatre to present Shakespeare’s Macbeth with an all-male ensemble – from Tuesday, March 10 to Saturday, April 4, 2009.

With Richard III, theFaction challenged the notion that the fringe was a place for meagre casts and minimalist edits demonstrating their epic ambitions. Now, in Macbeth, they are using an all male ensemble to explore the relationship of an emasculated Macbeth and an unsexed Lady Macbeth and perceived notions of masculine and feminine traits.

For this production, they have drawn inspiration from Japanese Kabuki techniques and will create moving staircases, walls and corridors that reflect a world of tangible evil spirits and the distorted reality that poisons Macbeth’s mind.

As well as performing, Mark Leipacher directs a cast that includes Geoff Breton, Dewi Evans, Gareth Fordred, Pethrow Gooden, Alexander Guiney, Austin Hardiman, Jamie Maclachlan, Henry Maynard, Jude Owusu Achiaw, Josh Taylor, Tom Vickers and Tim Wyatt.

The creative team also includes Matt Graham (Lighting Designer) Alexander Guiney (Assistant Director), Marcello Marascalchi (Fight Director) and Fiona Watson (Movement Director).

Tickets: £12, £9 concessions, £8 previews (March 10 to March 12).

Times: Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 5pm.
