ROSAMUND Pike joins Dame Judi Dench in the cast of Madame de Sade which opens at the Wyndham’s Theatre on March 18, 2009 (previews from March 13).

The pair have previously appeared together in Die Another Day, Pierce Brosnan’s final outing as James Bond.

A rarely seen drama, Madame de Sade by Japanese playwright Yukio Mishima, brings to life the story of the Marquis de Sade told through the eyes of six remarkable women. They include his wife Renee (Pike) and her mother Madame de Montreuil (Dench).

Michael Grandage, the Donmar’s artistic director, will direct.

Pike’s theatre credits include the title role in the Royal Court’s production of Terry Johnson’s 2003 play, Hitchcock Blonde, which subsequently transferred to the West End; the London premiere of Brian Friel’s Performances (Wilton’s Music Hall) opposite Henry Goodman; Summer and Smoke (Apollo Theatre), and Gaslight (Old Vic).

As well as Die Another Day, Pike’s screen credits include Doom, Pride and Prejudice (as Jane Bennet), and The Libertine.

Madame de Sade is part of the Donmar’s year-long residency at Wyndham’s Theatre where it runs until May 23, 2009.
