MAMMA Mia!, the hit musical which has just celebrated its 14th year in the West End, has extended its booking period at the Novello Theatre – until April 5, 2014.

The show, which is interspersed with ABBA disco classics such as Thank You For the Music, Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me, Super Trouper, Honey, Honey, plus the title song, opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in April 1999 before transferring to the Prince of Wales Theatre in June 2004.

It moved to its current home, the Novello Theatre, in September 2012 and went on to record the highest-ever weekly gross taken in the history of the theatre (formerly known as the Strand) for the week ending November 3, 2012.

Mamma Mia! is set on a Greek island where Sophie is preparing for her wedding day. Among the guests are three of her mother’s former lovers – there because Sophie is attempting to discover the identity of her father. Also present for the festivities are Sophie’s mother Donna, and her former band members.

The current cast includes Helen Hobson (as Donna Sheridan), Joanna Monro (Rosie), Kim Ismay (Tanya), Gary Milner (Sam Carmichael), Neil Roberts (Harry Bright), James Gaddas (Bill Austin), Charlotte Wakefield (Sophie Sheridan), Andreas Gyllander (Sky), Abiola Ogunbiyi (Ali), Tasha Taylor Johnson (Lisa), Steven Oliver (Pepper) and Liam Doyle (Eddie).

At certain performances, the role of Donna Sheridan is played by Claire Poyzer.

The production has grossed over $2 billion worldwide, been seen by more than 50 million people in over 300 cities and been translated into 14 languages. And in 2008, it was immortalised on film, starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth.
