Michael Praed

Casting news

MICHAEL Praed (as John Greenwood) will join the cast of R. C. Sherriff’s supernatural drama, The White Carnation, when it transfers to Jermyn Street Theatre for a limited three week run – from February 4 to February 22, 2014.

Christmas Eve, 1951. As Britain rebuilds itself after the war, John Greenwood has it all – a successful business, a beautiful house and an aristocratic wife. But as he bids farewell to the guests leaving his annual Christmas party, a gust of wind slams the front door shut, starting a chain of events that makes him doubt everything he has ever known…

From the writer of one of the 20th century’s most acclaimed plays, Journey’s End, The White Carnation is a ghostly tale of one man’s chance to do things differently. This rediscovery marks the first production since its premiere, starring Sir Ralph Richardson, in 1953.

Michael Praed’s London theatre credits include Design for Living (Gielgud Theatre), September Tide (Harold Pinter Theatre), Beautiful and Damned (Lyric Theatre), Contact (Queen’s Theatre), The Pirates of Penzance (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane), Aspects of Love (Prince of Wales Theatre), Abracadabra (Lyric Hammersmith) and Misery, Three on a Couch and The Murder Game (King’s Head Theatre).

He has also appeared in The Three Musketeers (Broadway Theatre, New York) and the UK touring productions of An Ideal Husband, The Constant Wife, Sleuth, Killing Castro, High Society, The Sound of Music, Copacabana and Dangerous to Know.

His screen work includes Hindenburg: The Untold Story, Doctors, The Bill, Mile High, Casualty, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, Darkness Falls, French and Saunders, Crown Prosecutor, Riders, Writer’s Block, Without Walls: For One Night Only, The Rothko Conspiracy, The Professionals, The Gentle Touch, Dynasty and Robin of Sherwood (TV); 9 Dead Gay Guys, Dangerous Obsession, Staggered, Son of Darkness and Nightflyers (film).

The cast of The White Carnation also includes Robert Benfield (as Mr. Gurney), Daisy Boulton (Lydia Truscott), Ashley Cook (Tony Dale), Harriett Hare (Cynthia Gray), Josie Kidd (Lady Wallace/Mrs. Carter), Annabel Mullion (Lady Mary), Bruce Panday (Police-Sergeant Phillips), Benjamin Whitrow (Mr. Pendlebury), Derek Wright (Dr. MacGregor) and Philip York (Sir George Wallace/Sir Horace Duncan).

Knight Mantell (The Art of Concealment, Jermyn Street Theatre and Riverside Studios) directs.
