Mother Courage And Her Children - Greenwich Theatre

Mother Courage And Her Children

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

BLACKEYED Theatre, in association with South Hill Park, is presenting Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage And Her Children at Greenwich Theatre – from October 10 to October 13, 2012.

Two ideologies collide in a conflict that stretches across a continent and threatens the balance of world power.

In its midst, one woman, her three children by her side, sees an opportunity to survive, a way to profit from the slaughter by selling goods to both sides. And the time is about to come when, in her quest for material gain, she must make the ultimate sacrifice.

Regarded by many as the greatest play of the 20th century and even the greatest anti-war play of all time, Mother Courage And Her Children asks fundamental questions about the effects our beliefs have on the world and the role of ideology in society and world affairs.

Tom Neill directs a cast that includes Jacob Addley, Janet Greaves, Georgina Hall, J.J Henry and Tristan Pate.

According to the press release, Lee Hall’s (Billy Elliot, The Pitmen Painters, War Horse screenplay) brilliant translation of Brecht’s masterpiece is accessible, bang up to date and full of dark comedy. The production also features live music.

Mother Courage And Her Children has music composed by Ron McAllister, musical direction by Ellie Verkerk, set design by Victoria Spearing, lighting by Alan Valentine and costume design by Jenny Lethbridge.

Following the Greenwich dates, Mother Courage And Her Children will tour the UK until December 1, 2012.

Tickets: £17.50, £15, £12.50; concessions £12.50 – available from the box office on 020 8858 7755 or online at www.greenwichtheatre.org.uk.
