Mr Burns - Jenna Russell leads cast
JENNA Russell will lead the cast of the European premiere of Mr Burns, Anne Washburn’s post-electric play, which runs at the Almeida Theatre from June 12 (previews from June 5) to July 26, 2014.
It’s the end of everything in contemporary America. A future without power. But what will survive?
Mr Burns asks how the stories we tell make us the people we are, explodes the boundaries between pop and high culture and, when society has crumbled, imagines the future for America’s most famous family.
Olivier award-winning Jenna Russell is currently appearing in Urinetown The Musical at St James Theatre. Her other numerous theatre credits include Merrily We Roll Along (Menier Chocolate Factory/Harold Pinter Theatre), Soho Cinders (Soho Theatre), Season’s Greetings (National Theatre), Into The Woods, The Card and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park), Amy’s View (Theatre Royal, Bath), Sunday In The Park With George (Menier Chocolate Factory/Wyndham’s Theatre) and Guys And Dolls (Piccadilly Theatre).
Joining Russell in the cast of Mr Burns will be Fiona Digney, Adrian der Gregorian, Demetri Goritsas, Adey Grummet, Michael Henry, Justine Mitchell, Wunmi Mosaku, Annabel Scholey and Michael Shaeffer.
Mr Burns will be directed by Robert Icke, Associate Director of the Almeida, whose production of 1984 is currently running at the Playhouse Theatre. His other work includes Boys, Romeo and Juliet and Decade (Headlong); The Alchemist (Liverpool Playhouse); and Catalysta (Ovalhouse Theatre).
Mr Burns will be designed by Tom Scutt, with lighting by Philip Gladwell, sound by Tom Gibbons and composition and musical direction by Orlando Gough and Michael Henry.
King Charles III, Mike Bartlett’s controversial new play, continues at the Almeida until May 31, 2014.
