Not Black and White - casting announced

FULL casting has been announced for the Tricycle Theatre’s Not Black and White season which runs from October 8 to December 19, 2009.
They are Jimmy Akingbola, Aml Ameen (Jolson, Victoria Palace, Oliver!, London Palladium), John Boyega (Six Parties, National Theatre), Karl Collins, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Abhin Galeya, Jaye Griffiths, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simone James (365, Lyric Hammersmith, Chatroom & Citizenship, National Theatre), Amelia Lowdell, Cecilia Noble, Rebecca Scroggs (Hedda Gabler, As You Like It) and Robert Whitelock.
Not Black and White is a three month season of plays that examine life and social issues in 21st Century London from the perspective of three leading black contemporary playwrights – Roy Williams with Category B, Kwame Kwei-Armah with Seize The Day and Bola Agbaje with Detaining Justice.
Jimmy Akingbola‘s theatre credits include Everything Must Go! (Soho Theatre), Othello (Lyric Hammersmith), Henry VIII (Royal Shakespeare Company), The Cut (Donmar Warehouse), Prayer Room (Birmingham Rep), Blue/Orange (Sheffield Crucible) and Baby Doll, The Changeling and Ramayana (National Theatre). His screen credits include series regular Neil Parker in Holby Blue, as well as The Bill, Holby City and The Royal.
Karl Collins was last seen at the Tricycle Theatre in Fabulation and the Darfur plays – both directed by Indhu Rubasingham. His other theatre credits include The 11th Capital (Royal Court Theatre) and Fuente Ovejuna and Sarita (National Theatre). And although he’s probably best known for his screen roles in Casualty (as Aiden), The Bill (Danny Glaze) and Grease Monkeys (Trevor), he has also appeared in Dr Who, Metrosexuality and Parallel Nine.
Sharon Duncan-Brewster‘s Tricycle credits include Fabulation, Playboy of the West Indies, Blues For Mr Charlie and most recently, Kwame Kwei-Armah’s hit play Let There Be Love. Her other theatre credits include The Baccae, The Magic Carpet and Peepshow (Lyric Hammersmith), Keepers (Hampstead Theatre) and Ashes and Sand and Babies (Royal Court Theatre). On screen she has appeared in EastEnders (as Trina), Bad Girls (Crystal), Waking the Dead, Holby City and The Bill.
Abhin Galeya‘s theatre credits include Best of Motives (Tricycle Theatre), The Container (Young Vic) and The Ramayana (National Theatre). His screen credits include The Bill (as PC Arun Ghir), Murder Investigation Team (Simon), Countdown to War, Robin Hood and Holby City (TV); and The Blue Tower (as Mohan), winner of the Best UK Feature Award at the 2008 Raindance Film Festival.
Jaye Griffiths‘ theatre credits include Mr Knightley and Ugly Rumours (Tricycle Theatre), Julius Caesar and Timon of Athens (Young Vic), Wit (Vaudeville Theatre), A Woman of No Importance and Gasping (Theatre Royal Haymarket) and The Plantagenets and The Plain Dealer (Royal Shakespeare Company). On screen she has appeared in Doctors (as Dr Elizabeth Croft), Always & Everyone (Ruth), Bugs (Ros) and The Bill (DI Sally Johnson).
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith has previously appeared at the Tricycle in Fabulation, Gem of the Ocean, Walk Hard – Talk Loud and The Playboy of the West Indies. His other theatre credits include Death and the Kings Horseman (National Theatre), Love Labour’s Lost and We The People (Shakespeare’s Globe) and A Respectable Wedding (Young Vic). On television he has appeared in Horne and Corden, Star Stories, Little Britain and Pulling.
Amelia Lowdell‘s theatre credits include The Frontline (Shakespeare’s Globe), Oxford Street, Breath Boom When Brains Don’t Count and Yard Gal (Royal Court Theatre) and A Bitter Herb (Bristol Old Vic). Her television credits include The Bill, Holby City and Casualty.
Cecilia Noble has previously appeared at the Tricycle Theatre in Wine in the Wilderness, Water, Pecong, The Piano Lesson, Playboy of the West Indies and Iced. Her other stage credits include In The Red and Brown Water and Raisin In the Sun (Young Vic), His Dark Materials, Henry V and The Recruiting Officer (National Theatre) and Talking in Tongues and This Is A Chair (Royal Court Theatre). On screen she has appeared in The Bill, Silent Witness and Storm Damage.
Robert Whitelock‘s theatre credits include The 39 Steps (West Yorkshire Playhouse), The Father (Chichester Theatre) and Macbeth, St Erkenwald, Dr Faustus, Henry VIII, Camino Real and The Spanish Tragedy (Royal Shakespeare Company). His screen credits include Margaret Thatcher – The Long Walk to Finchley, The Whistleblowers, The Brief and Love from Colditz.
