Notes in Heels - Duchess Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
JULIE Atherton and Paul Spicer return to the West End – to the Duchess Theatre – in the latest offering in the Notes From New York series, Notes in Heels – for one night only, Sunday, April 6, 2008.
The show, which profiles the work of three contemporary American musical theatre composers – Georgia Stitt, Jenny Giering and Zina Goldrich – will also star newcomers Selina Chilton, Stuart Matthew Price and Amy Pemberton.
Stitt has written several musicals including The Water and Big Red Sun and is also well known as an arranger, pianist, conductor and vocal coach. Giering’s work includes The Mistress Cycle; Crossing Brooklyn, which premiered in New York last year; and the forthcoming Saint-Ex, a musical about the life of Antoine de Saint Exupery, author of The Little Prince.
Goldrich and her lyricist Marcy Heisler have written the shows Dear Edwina, Adventures In Love and Allison Under, as well as the popular musical Junie B Jones which opens off-Broadway later this year.
Atherton, who originated the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in the West End production of Avenue Q, has also played lead roles in Mamma Mia! (Sophie) and Fame (Serena). Her debut album A Girl of Few Words is one of the most popular musical theatre releases of recent years.
Spicer has performed lead roles in The Witches of Eastwick, Fame and Taboo as well as creating his own solo show Something in Common. He is due to star as Tobias in a new production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd at the Gothenburg Opera in Sweden.
Chilton’s theatre credits include the title role in Marianne Dreams (Almeida Theatre) and Kitty in the West End transfer of the Broadway hit The Drowsy Chaperone. Price made his professional debut last year in the UK première of Jason Robert Brown’s Parade (Donmar Warehouse) and Pemberton, whose credits include Ariel in the West End cast of Footloose, will play Lorraine in the UK première of Jersey Boys which opens at the Prince Edward Theatre in March.
