Orestes - guilty or not guilty - the public decide
Theatre news
AT 9.30pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday during July, as part of the More London Free Festival, Steam Industry Free Theatre will recreate the legendary trial of Prince Orestes, accused of murdering his mother, at the climax of free outdoor performances of their Trojan War trilogy.
Throughout the summer, the public will be invited to debate the arguments and to act as jury by casting their vote at www.orestes.co.uk.
The final verdict will be announced at the last performance on August 5, 2012 and on the website.
Director Phil Willmott says:
“Thanks to our and More London’s free admission policy we already have one of the country’s most vibrant audiences of first time theatregoers and regular fans. I’m delighted that for our 10th anniversary Olympic season we’re able to open things up even further by presenting some of the play’s arguments online so people from all over the world can participate in the season. This is a really fun way of making Aeschylus’ ancient trilogy about the birth of democracy as topical as ever.”
