Othello - Jack Studio Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
CULTURCATED Theatre Company is presenting William Shakespeare’s Othello at the Jack Studio Theatre – from Tuesday, October 23 to Saturday, November 10, 2012.
London. A city where people are at war with each other; where rumours, whispers and social networking spread jealousy and mistrust with dangerous consequences.
Young men jostling for power within gangs; fighting over their territories and their women. Young women making a stand; battling to position themselves in this increasingly violent world. A world where reputation is everything, where respect is demanded and those who are seen to have strayed will pay the ultimate price.
The production uses Shakespeare’s original language.
Jennifer Lunn directs a cast that has been assembled from a mixture of untrained performers and recent drama school graduates. They include Tango Mwanza (as Othello), Jamael Westman (Iago), Sofia Stuart (Desdemona), Zainab Hasan (Emilia), Ricky Sharma (Brabantio), Gary Roe (Cassio), Alex Rand (Roderigo), Matthew Haigh (Duke/Montano), Elspeth McNeil (Bianca), Kennedy Mills (Lodovico) and Elizabeth Alabi (Gratiano).
Othello is designed by Hayley Burke, with sound by Jonathan Bidgood. Assistant director is Hussina Raja, fight directors are R.C. Annie and voice coach is Simon Money.
Tickets: £13, £10 concessions – available from the box office on 0844 847 2454 or online at www.brockleyjack.co.uk (no booking fees).
Time: Tuesday to Saturday at 7.45pm.
