Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
OUT OF Joint will host a special reading of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at St. James Theatre on Sunday, June 1, 2014.
In a version by Thomas Kilroy, Max Stafford-Clark will direct a cast that includes Sir Ian McKellen as Peter and Trudie Styler, who reprises her acclaimed Broadway performance, as Isobel.
They are joined by Stella Feehily as Pauline and Lloyd Hutchinson as Cousin Gregory, with further casting to be announced.
Set in late 19th Century County Galway, Kilroy’s extraordinary version was commissioned and directed by Max Stafford-Clark at the Royal Court in 1981 and was revived in New York last year.
The Gala Reading is the culmination of a season of readings of Out of Joint’s work at the St. James Theatre, which accompany This May Hurt A Bit by Stella Feehily, the much praised play about the NHS, which runs from May 14 to June 21, 2014.
Tickets: £75 and £100 – includes a drinks reception, and proceeds from the event will help fund the work of Out of Joint, the UK’s leading touring theatre company for new writing. To book, call the box office on 0844 264 2140 or visit www.stjamestheatre.co.uk/.
