Pam Ayres at Cadogan Hall
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
PAM Ayres will be making a rare London appearance at Cadogan Hall on Thursday, October 3, 2013 with An Evening With Pam Ayres. She also has a new collection of poems, You Made Me Late Again!, published on September 26.
From wishing your husband was more dashing to becoming a granny for the first time, Ayres’ poems are observant, witty and poignant in equal measure. From exploding wardrobes, to knowing you must eat more fruit, to the dog being afraid of the toaster – the poems are beautifully crafted, and her subjects the everyday and the universal.
Delightfully illustrated, most of the poems in You Made Me Late Again! are new, yet it also features several firm favourites from her stage shows, published for the first time, such as The Make-Up Lady and Tippy Tappy Feet.
Pam Ayres, who won the talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1975, has been a writer, broadcaster and entertainer for nearly 40 years, becoming an audience favourite for her sharp perception of the comic detail of everyday life.
With the exception of Sarah Millican and Miranda Hart, she is one of the best selling comediennes performing in UK theatres. When she played Leicester Comedy Festival last year, she sold out Leicester Curve Theatre (800) seats well in advance. She is one of the very few international comediennes who has played the main Concert Hall in the Sydney Opera House and one of the few authors who has had bestsellers in the Sunday Times charts in almost every decade since the 1970s.
Ayres is the author of several bestselling poetry collections, including With These Hands, Surgically Enhanced and The Works plus a memoir, The Necessary Aptitude.
She performs her solo stage show annually to sell-out audiences throughout Britain and around the world. In 2004, she was awarded the MBE.
