Peter Pan - El Musical - Garrick Theatre

Peter Pan El Musical

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

A MASSIVE hit in Spain where it has already been seen by more than a million people, Peter Pan – El Musical receives its UK premiere at the Garrick Theatre, where it will run for a strictly limited season – from Friday, March 28 to Sunday, April 27, 2008.

Sung and spoken in Spanish, with English sur-titles, Peter Pan El Musical features 14 original songs, beautiful sets (including a pirate galleon) and a cast of 25; and is described as a bright and breezy, colourful musical for children of all ages.

Adapted from JM Barrie’s timeless story by Cristina Fargas, the story centres around Peter, a mischievous boy who flies and magically refuses to grow up. Leader of the Lost Boys on the island of Neverland, he makes regular visits to the real world where he befriends the Darling children – Wendy and her brothers, John and Michael.

Soon, he takes them to Neverland where they meet the petulant fairy, Tinkerbell; Red Indians; and terrifying pirates led by Peter’s nemesis, the evil Captain Hook who has a hook in place of the hand he lost during a duel with Peter. All are brought vividly to life in a unique Spanish take on this most English fairy story.

Miguel Angel Gamero, Spain’s leading musical theatre star, plays Captain Hook and Mr Darling. His previous credits include Les Miserables (as Javert), Annie (as Daddy Warbucks) and Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers (as the narrator).

Peter Pan El Musical is also directed by Cristina Fargas, with choreography by Lamberto Garcia and music and lyrics by Cesar Constanti, Pablo Pinilla and others.

It is produced by Theatre Properties, one of Spain’s leading musical theatre production companies. Their previous hits include Man of La Mancha, Blood Brothers, Annie and Jekyll and Hyde. Their next production will be the world premiere of an original musical based on Aladdin.

Theatre Properties are donating more than £170,000 to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children as a share of the box office profits to January 2008 from Peter Pan El Musical – JM Barrie gave the copyright of Peter Pan to the hospital in April 1929.
