Peter Polycarpou to play Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha at the London Coliseum

RENOWNED stage, film and TV performer Peter Polycarpou will play Don Quixote’s squire, Sancho Panza in Man of the Mancha. The first West End production of this multi-Tony Award-winning Broadway musical for 50 years, it runs at the London Coliseum from Friday, April 26 to Saturday, June 8, 2019.

Polycarpou joins the already announced cast of Kelsey Grammer and Danielle de Niese, and Nicholas Lyndhurst and Cassidy Janson, who will perform with the ENO orchestra.

Peter Polycarpou is a leading artist in musical theatre, having appeared in some of this country’s most enduring West End Musicals, plays, film and television.

He recently starred in the National Theatre production of Oslo at The Harold Pinter Theatre and received an Olivier nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Ahmed Qurie. His other theatre credits include Buddy Fidler in Josie Rourke’s double Olivier Award-winning production of City Of Angels (Donmar Warehouse), Vernon Hines in The Pajama Game (Chichester Festival Theatre/Duchess Theatre), and Beadle Bamford in Jonathan Kent’s triple Olivier Award-winning production of Steven Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd (Adelphi Theatre).

He also created the role of Daniel Washovsky in Imagine This in the West End and was an original member of the Les Misérables company at the Barbican in 1985 playing Jean Prouvaire. At the RSC he also gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of Aaron the Moor in Deborah Warner’s Titus Andronicus. Other RSC work includes The Jew of Malta, A Question of Geography and The New Inn by Ben Johnson. He also created the role of John in Miss Saigon at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1989 and played The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesties Theatre in 1991.

Featuring the iconic song Dream the Impossible Dream, Man of La Mancha is inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’s masterpiece Don Quixote. It is produced by Michael Linnit and Michael Grade, the same team who brought to the Coliseum the smash hit productions of Sweeney Todd, Sunset Boulevard, Carousel and Chess.
