Ben Richards

Lizzie Guilfoyle

ON JUNE 1, 2010, The Bill‘s Ben Richards will take over the role of Tick from Jason Donovan in Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical, which is now booking at the Palace Theatre until May 28, 2011.

He will be joining Don Gallagher (as Bernadette), Oliver Thornton (Adam) and John Bowe (Bob).

No stranger to musical theatre, Richards has appeared as Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls (West End and on tour), Danny Zuko in Grease (Victoria Palace Theatre and on tour), Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever (London Palladium and on tour) and Jerry Lukowski in The Full Monty (Prince of Wales Theatre).

As well as PC Nathaniel Roberts in The Bill, Richards has also played Bruno Milligan in ITV’s Footballer’s Wives and Justin Fuller in the BBC drama Holby City.

Based on the Academy award-winning film and written by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott, Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical tells the story of Tick, Bernadette and Adam, a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who agree to take their show to the middle of the Australian outback in a battered old bus.

Searching for love and friendship, the three friends end up finding more than they could ever have dreamed. With a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and featuring a score of dance-floor classics, Priscilla is described as a sensational journey to the heart of fabulous.

In March this year, just ahead of its first birthday in the West End, Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical won the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Costume Design as well as the Whatsonstage.com awards for Best Musical, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Oliver Thornton), Best Set Design (Brian Thomson) and Best Choreographer (the late Ross Coleman).
