Promises, Promises - creative team announced as booking opens

BOOKING has now opened for the hit Burt Bacharach/Hal David/Neil Simon Broadway musical Promises, Promises. The first major London production since its 1969 West End premiere, it runs at Southwark Playhouse from January 17 (previews from January 13) to February 18, 2017.

The creative team has also been announced and comprises Director Bronagh Lagan, Musical Director Elliot Davis, Choreographer Cressida Carré, Casting Director Jane Deitch and Producers Aria Entertainment and Senbla.

Bronagh Lagan’s recent credits and current productions include The Rise and Fall of Little Voice (Chipping Norton Theatre and Greenwich Theatre), Madness Of Sweeney (Belfast Lyric), James And The Giant Peach (International Tour), Marina Carr’s Portia Coughlan (Old Red Lion Theatre), Howard Goodall’s Girlfriends (Union Theatre), Rags In Concert (Lyric Theatre) and the British premiere of The Stationmaster (From Page To Stage).

Elliot Davis is a writer, composer and musical director. His recent MD credits include Burt Bacharach at the Palladium and at The Festival Hall with Burt Bacharach & Joss Stone. Last year, he conducted the Festival Hall concert of The Lionel Bart Songbook, A Life In Song with Burt Bacharach and a celebration of the classic dance films in Let’s Dance Again. He has extensive writing and MD credits over a 20-year career.

Cressida Carré’s movement direction can currently be seen in the hit transfer of Titanic from Southwark Playhouse to Charing Cross Theatre. She also recently directed and choreographed the hugely successful UK tour of Avenue Q which just ended a three-year run. She is currently working on a new version of the musical comedy Eurobeat, which will premiere at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and will then go on to be movement director for Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd in a co-production with Derby Theatre & The Mercury, Colchester.

Casting has still to be announced.

Based on the multi Oscar-winning 1960 film The Apartment, Promises, Promises is about a junior executive at an insurance company, who sets out to climb the corporate ladder by allowing his apartment to be used by his married superiors for extra marital affairs.
