Proof - Menier Chocolate Factory
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
POLLY Findlay will direct David Auburn’s Tony Award-winning play Proof, which runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from March 20 (previews from March 13) to April 27, 2013.
Proof tells the story of Catherine, a young woman who has spent five years caring for her mentally ill father, a well-known and talented mathematician.
When Hal, one of her father’s ex-students, discovers a ground-breaking proof in his office, two questions arise: who is behind this brilliant piece of work and, as Catherine struggles to solve it, just how much of her father’s madness – or genius – has she inherited?
Polly Findlay’s credits include Antigone (National Theatre), Derren Brown’s Olivier Award-winning solo show Svengali (West End and on tour), A Taste of Honey (Sheffield Theatres) and The Country Wife (Royal Exchange).
Proof will be designed by Helen Goddard (The Village Bike, Royal Court Theatre) and have lighting by Paul Anderson (Complicite’s The Master and Margarita, Torch Song Trilogy). Casting will be announced shortly.
In 2005, John Madden directed a big screen version of Proof starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Merrily We Roll Along continues at the Menier Chocolate Factory until March 9, 2013.
