Ray Shell returns to the capital
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
FOLLOWING his highly successful London cabaret debut, Ray Shell is returning to the West End with his new show. Entitled Ray Shell – Back 2 Black II, it can be seen at Crazy Coqs on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Ray Shell – Back 2 Black II is described as an amazing musical journey; a show that features Shell’s distinctive interpretation of well-known songs from musicals Sweeney Todd to Miss Saigon and current Broadway hit Kinky Boots.
Also included will be songs from his pop career as well as a few new surprises.
Ray Shell’s West End career has included starring roles in many of the greatest musicals of the past 30 years, from Hair and Starlight Express to The Lion King and The Bodyguard.
Mark Shenton, The Stage, wrote:
“Ray Shell has been a fixture in West End musicals for more than 30 years now, from Starlight Express (in which he created the role of Rusty in its 1984 stage premiere) to The Bodyguard. But there’s nothing rusty about his thrilling vocal talents, or the ease of the sparky rapport he establishes with an audience. As he takes occasional neat swigs from a bottle of honey, his voice sounds as if it has been coated in the warm, sweet flavour.”
Written and created by Ray Shell and Dollie Henry, Ray Shell – Back 2 Black II is directed by Dollie Henry, with musical direction by Associate Paul Jenkins.
Tickets: £20 – available from the box office on 020 7734 4888 or online at www.brasseriezedel.com/.
