Previously Posted: Running On Empty, a new boundary blurring dance-theatre performance from award-winning company Probe, will visit Soho Theatre in Spring 2014 (tbc) as part of a national tour.
Running On Empty mixes dance, text, music and song to tell the story of a Man and Woman repeatedly colliding over time. Absurd and sometimes devastating, it is about resilience, struggle and our determination to survive.
Jo Mclnnes directs a cast that comprises Probe Artistic Director Antonia Grove, Greig Cooke and Scott Smith.
Antonia Grove, (twice Critics’ Circle and Time Out National Dance Awards nominee) said:
“I look to combine my love of dance, spoken word and music and to find ways that those elements can exist together effectively in harmony and discord. I continue to be driven to create work that deals in both fantasy and reality, with characters that have all the difficulties of real people and tell stories about the complexity of human relationships.
“With Running On Empty we jump from the epic to the intimate, looking at human resilience through history, our survival of the present and our fears for the future. From natural disaster to the intricate and sometimes absurd nature of our daily human interactions.”
Probe is a dance-theatre performance company founded in 2004 by Antonia Grove and Theo Clinkard who came together as dancers, artistic directors, curators and producers to commission work to perform as a duo. Since 2008, Grove has continued to develop projects for Probe as sole Artistic Director.
Probe’s previous productions, which have earned the company its much respected reputation, include Small Talk (2012), May (2011), Magpie (2008) and Have we met somewhere before? (2005), among which May was nominated for the 2011 London Theatre Award.
Written by Brad Birch and composed by Olivier Award nominee Lee Ross, Running On Empty is designed by Fabrice Serafino, with choreography by Charlie Morrissey, music composition by Scott Smith and lighting by Becky Stoddart.
Running On Empty is suitable for ages 14+.
