Sandra Bernhard: Without You I'm Nothing
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
SANDRA Bernhard is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough comedy show, Without You I’m Nothing, with a special reworked West End version. It will play just ten dates at the Leicester Square Theatre – from Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, June 5, 2009.
Without You I’m Nothing was first seen on Broadway in 1989. A world tour followed as well as a Grammy-nominated album and a feature film of the same name.
Described by the New York Times as a “living, breathing bonfire”, Bernhard is an accomplished comedienne, actress, singer, and writer. Her live performances – part comedy, part social satire, and part cabaret – showcase her astonishing range of talents.
Bernhard first received Hollywood acclaim as the obsessively neurotic groupie who attempts to kidnap Jerry Lewis in Martin Scorseses’ 1983 classic, The King of Comedy, a role that won her the Best Supporting Actress award in the National Society of Film Critics Awards. Her TV credits include Roseanne (as Nancy) plus guest appearances in Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope and Will & Grace. In 2001, she hosted her own TV talk show, The Sandra Bernhard Experience.
Her books include Confessions of a Pretty Lady, Love, Love, and Love and May I Kiss You on the Lips, Miss Sandra?
In Without You I’m Nothing, Bernhard is backed by her band, The Rebellious Jezebels.
The West End dates will be followed by an evening at the Sage, Gateshead on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
