Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

TREVOR Nunn will direct Olivia Williams (as Marianne) in Joanna Murray-Smith’s adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage, which runs at St James Theatre from September 11 to November 9, 2013.

Scenes from a Marriage, a portrait of extraordinary intimacy and a searchingly honest and moving love story, follows Johan and Marianne from their seemingly perfect happy marriage through betrayal and loss to warring contenders in divorce and beyond.

Her other theatre credits include Hotel in Amsterdam (Donmar Warehouse), The Changeling (Barbican), Happy Now? (National Theatre) and In a Forest Dark and Deep (Vaudeville Theatre).

On film, Williams has appeared in The Sixth Sense; An Education; Kevin Costner’s The Postman; Wes Anderson’s Rushmore; Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer, for which she won Best Supporting Actress from the National Society of Film Critics, British Supporting Actress of the Year at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards and Best Supporting Actress at the Los Angeles Film Critics’ Awards; and The Heart of Me, for which she was named Best Actress at the 2003 British Independent Film Awards.

Williams’ television credits include nineteen episodes of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse and Miss Austen Regrets.

Sir Trevor Nunn has been the artistic director for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre, and, most recently, the Theatre Royal, Haymarket.

His numerous credits include Cats, Starlight Express and Les Misérables (West End), Macbeth and Othello (RSC), King Lear and The Seagull (RSC, world tour and West End), Hamlet and Kiss Me Kate (Old Vic), Birdsong (Comedy Theatre), Flare Path, Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, The Tempest and The Lion In Winter (Theatre Royal, Haymarket), A Chorus of Disapproval (Harold Pinter Theatre), All That Fall (Jermyn Street Theatre) and Relative Values (Theatre Royal Bath).
