Skylight recoups after just five weeks
STEPHEN Daldry’s production of David Hare’s Skylight, which is currently breaking all Wyndham Theatre’s box office records for the highest grossing show, has recouped after just five weeks in the West End.
Hare’s Olivier award-winning play, which opened at Wyndham’s Theatre on June 18, 2014, stars Bill Nighy as Tom Sergeant, Carey Mulligan as Kyra Hollis and Matthew Beard as Edward Sergeant and runs until August 23, 2014 in a strictly limited season.
This Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 7pm, there will be a National Theatre Live performance of Skylight. NT Live is the National Theatre’s ground-breaking project to broadcast the best of British Theatre live from the stage to cinemas across the UK and around the world.
The story takes place on a bitterly cold London evening, when schoolteacher Kyra Hollis receives an unexpected visit from her former lover, Tom Sergeant, a successful and charismatic restaurateur whose wife has recently died. As the evening progresses, the two attempt to rekindle their once passionate relationship only to find themselves locked in a dangerous battle of opposing ideologies and mutual desires.
Skylight premiered at the National Theatre in 1995 and that year was the recipient of the Laurence Olivier award for Best Play. The production transferred to Wyndham’s Theatre and then Broadway. In a return to the West End, the production opened at the Vaudeville Theatre in June 1997.
Skylight is designed by Bob Crowley, with lighting by Natasha Katz, sound by Paul Arditti and music by Paul Englishby.
Skylight is produced in the West End by Robert Fox Limited and Scott Rudin. It was Fox who produced the original West End transfer and the Vaudeville production and he and Rudin who co-produced the Broadway production.
