Small Change - Donmar Warehouse

A REVIVAL of Peter Gill’s Small Change, the first in London for 25 years, runs at the Donmar Warehouse from April 10 to May 31, 2008.

Set on the east side of Cardiff in the 1950s, Small Change recalls the friendship between two boys and the relationship with their mothers, and the tragedy of the things that go unsaid and are forever unresolved.

Gill directs a cast that includes Lindsey Coulson (Mrs Driscoll), Luke Evans (Vincent), Sue Johnston (Mrs Harte) and Matt Ryan (Gerard).

Coulson’s London stage credits include Blame (Arcola Theatre), Snake (Hampstead Theatre), Hamlet (Shaw Theatre), The Web (Tabard Theatre) and Danny’s Bouble Daydream (Arts Theatre). Her numerous television credits include Dr Who, Casualty, Inspector Lynley, Where the Heart Is, The Last Detective and EastEnders (as Carol Jackson).

Evans’ theatre credits include Rent (Duke of York’s Theatre), Dickens Unplugged (Edinburgh Festival), Avenue Q (Noel Coward Theatre) and Taboo (The Venue). On television, he has appeared in Crossroads.

Johnston numerous stage credits include The Master Builder (West End), The Play What I Wrote (Wyndham’s Theatre), The Mysteries (National Theatre), Hindle Wakes, Sugar Sugar, Ghosts, Rage and Richard II. Her equally numerous TV credits include Jam and Jerusalem, The Royle Family, The Street, Cutting It, My Uncle Silas, The Verdict and Waking the Dead in which she played psychologist Grace Foley for seven years.

Ryan’s extensive work for the RSC includes Sejanus, A New Way to Please You, Believe What You Will, Speaking Like Magpies, Tamar’s Revenge and Petro the Great Pretender. His screen credits include Layer Cake and Pocket Money (film); Holby Blue, Torchwood, Consenting Adults and The Tudors (TV).

Gill has directed over 80 productions in the UK, Europe and North America. He was last at the Donmar Warehouse in 2005 with JP Miller’s Days of Wine and Roses. Gill’s other plays include The York Realist, Original Sin, Certain Young Men and Friendly Fire.
