Spamalot extends booking period - again

Spamalot

Feature by Lizzie Guilfoyle

Monty Python’s Spamalot has once again extended its booking period at the Palace Theatre, this time by seven months – until September 27, 2008.

Previously Posted: On October 17, 2007, Monty Python’s Spamalot will celebrate a year in London’s West End. “Lovingly ripped-off” from the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, it has been seen by over half a million people.

Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and their quest for the Holy Grail, the show features a chorus line of dancing divas (and serfs), flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits and a legless knight.

Mike Nichols directs a cast that currently includes Peter Davison (King Arthur), Bill Ward (Sir Lancelot), Olivier Award nominated Hannah Waddingham (The Lady of the Lake), Robert Hands (Sir Robin), Steven Kynman (Herbert), Graham MacDuff (Sir Dennis Galahad), Andrew Spillett (Patsy) and Tony Timberlake (Sir Bedevere).

However, in January 2008, Hannah Waddingham will make her Broadway debut by swapping roles with multi-Tony Award and Olivier nominated leading lady Marin Mazzie who is currently playing The Lady of the Lake at the Shubert Theatre.

Mazzie has not been seen in London since her acclaimed West End debut in Michael Blakemore’s 2001 production of Kiss Me, Kate at the Victoria Palace Theatre when she received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.

Her extensive Broadway credits include Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime, Passion, Man of La Mancha, Into the Woods, Big River, Kismet, Out of This World, The Vagina Monologues and The Trojan Women.

Spamalot has book and lyrics by Eric Idle; a Grammy Award-winning score by Eric Idle and John Du Prez; choreography by Casey Nicholaw; sets and costumes by Tim Hatley and lighting by Hugh Vanstone (both multiple Olivier Award-winners).

As well as the London and Broadway productions, Spamalot is also playing in Las Vegas, with an Australian premiere scheduled for Melbourne this coming November.

Spamalot is currently booking until March 1, 2008 at the West End’s Palace Theatre.
