Spamalot - Joe Pasquale to make W/E Musical debut
COMEDIAN Joe Pasquale will make his West End Musical debut when he takes over the role of King Arthur in Monty Python’s Spamalot, which is currently booking at The Playhouse Theatre until November 2, 2013.
Pasquale will perform from Monday, June 17, 2013, for a six week run. The production is also announcing a new summer performance schedule, starting on July 1, which will include two shows on Fridays.
Pasquale will star alongside Bonnie Langford (as The Lady of The Lake). Thirteen years ago, the pair starred together in Peter Pan and after they were reunited via Twitter, Pasquale went to see Langford in Spamalot. Following the performance, she suggested that he would make a great King Arthur and put the idea to the show’s producers.
As Pasquale explains:
“I’m very excited to be stepping into the shoes of King Arthur on stage with the cast of Spamalot. I’ve known Bonnie Langford since we worked together doing Peter Pan in 2000. The Spamalot Knights recently strong-armed Bonnie into joining twitter and she amassed over 1000 followers in her first week. When I saw she had joined up I sent her a message to welcome her as we’d lost touch for years.
“She invited me to see the show and I loved it so much that I went backstage afterwards to congratulate the cast. It was then that Bonnie said she thought I’d make a great King Arthur and the next thing that I knew, the show’s producers spoke to my agent and it went from there very quickly. I’m now looking forward to a great summer of making audiences laugh at the Playhouse Theatre during six weeks filled with killer rabbits, flying cows and coconuts.”
One of the country’s most popular funny men for over 20 years, Joe Pasquale has appeared on stage in six Royal Variety Performances, and in the touring productions of Mel Brooks’ The Producers, The Wizard of Oz and Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. He can also be seen in the touring production of Ha Ha Holmes!, which visits New Wimbledon Theatre on Monday, November 4, 2013.
His numerous live stand up shows included the 1996 £1 million selling tour Live and Squeaky.
On screen, Pasquale has voiced characters for the Hollywood films Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties and Horton Hears A Who!. His TV credits include The Price Is Right (as host), An Audience With Joe Pasquale and Channel 4’s The Paul O’Grady Show (as guest presenter). Most famously, he won the 2004 series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and earlier this year, made it to round six of ITV1’s Dancing on Ice.
In Spamalot, Pasquale will be stepping into the shoes of Stephen Tompkinson, Jon Culshaw and Marcus Brigstocke.
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an ‘almost’ new score for the new production, created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. Christopher Luscombe directs.
