Twickenham Theatre's Sweeney Todd extends run
DUE to extraordinary and overwhelming public demand, David Adkin and Twickenham Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has extended its run with five extra performances.
The extra shows are on Tuesday, October 7 at 7.45pm, Wednesday, October 8 at 7.45pm, Thursday, October 9 at 7.45pm, Friday, October 10 at 7.45 and Sunday, October 12 at 3pm.
Tickets will go on sale from 3pm today (September 23) from www.twickenhamtheatre.com/.
Previously Posted: Olivier Award winner David Bedella will play the title role and Sarah Ingram his pie-making partner in crime, Mrs Lovett, in an intimate new production of the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The 100-seat Twickenham Theatre’s inaugural production, it runs from September 16 (previews from September 10) to October 4, 2014.
A story of gory revenge by a razor-wielding madman, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler.
For creating the role of the warm-up man Jonathan Weiruss/Satan in Jerry Springer The Opera, David Bedella was named Best Actor in a Musical at the 2004 Olivier Awards, the Evening Standard Awards, and The Critics’ Circle Awards. It was a role he played at the National Theatre, in the West End, at the Sydney Opera House and in New York in a concert version at Carnegie Hall.
His other West End starring roles include Frank n Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, Billy Flynn in Chicago and Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He also starred as Arnold in Torch Song Trilogy and Wilson Mizner in Sondheim’s Road Show, both at the Menier Chocolate Factory. In the past year, he played Man 1 in the acclaimed production of Sondheim’s Putting It Together (St.James Theatre) and Kevin in Into The Heights (Southwark Playhouse).
On television, Bedella most notably played Dr Carlos Fashola in Holby City and more recently guest starred in By Any Means and Inside No. 9, all for BBC. He has also appeared in the films Alexander and Batman Begins.
Sarah Ingram, who worked with David Bedella on Sondheim’s Road Show at the Menier Chocolate Factory, has appeared in numerous West End musicals, among them Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Martin Guerre, Inherit The Wind, Flashdance, Imagine This, Murderous Instincts and Napoleon. Most recently, she played Miss Hannigan to critical acclaim in Annie (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Josie in the revival of the Boy George musical Taboo (Brixton Clubhouse).
Joining Bedella and Ingram will be Mark McKerracher (The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, Sunday in the Park With George, Ragtime, Cats and The Bodyguard, all in the West End) as Judge Turpin; and Zoe Curlett (Christine in The Phantom of the Opera and Cosette in Les Miserables in the West End and Cats and The Secret Garden on UK tour) as Beggar Woman.
Completing the cast will be Shaun Chambers (as Pirelli), Genevieve Kingsford (making her professional debut as Johanna), Mikaela Newton (Tobias) and Josh Tevendale (Anthony).
