Tap Dogs - Novello Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

ADAM Garcia will lead the cast of the Australian dance show Tap Dogs when it returns to London for a limited 12-week season at the Novello Theatre – from June 15 to September 5, 2010.

As the name suggests, Tap Dogs is a show that combines the strength and power of workmen with the precision and talent of tap dancing.

Created by choreographer Dein Perry, Tap Dogs received its world premiere at the Sydney Theatre Festival in January 1995. It became an instant hit both there and at the Edinburgh Festival later that year. It subsequently played at Sadler’s Wells, earning Perry a 1996 Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreographer.

In 1994, Australian-born Garcia made his London debut in the tap-dancing musical Hot Shoe Shuffle, which was co-choreographed by Perry at the Queen’s Theatre. And in 1998, he created the role of Tony Manero in the stage premiere of Saturday Night Fever at the London Palladium, for which he was Olivier nominated for Best Actor in a Musical.

His other stage credits include Birdy, On the Town, Wicked (as Fiyero) and the English National Opera’s production of On the Town at the London Coliseum.

On screen he has appeared in Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion, Agatha Christie’s Marple: The Body in the Library and Riot at the Rite (TV); and Riding in Cars with Boys, Standing Still, The First 20 Million Is Always the Hardest, Wilde and Coyote Ugly (film).

Joining Garcia in the cast of Tap Dogs will be Douglas Mills, Matthew Papa, Richie Miller, Donovan Helma, Jesse Rasmussen and Jason Lewis.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof continues at the Novello Theatre until April 10, 2010. It will be followed by Grumpy Old Women Live 2 – Chin Up Britain
