BATTERSEA’S Theatre503 has announced the full line-up of writers contributing to Thatcherwrite, a series of short plays in response to the life and death of Margaret Thatcher, which runs from June 11 to June 15, 2013.

Newly announced writers include Jimmy Osborne (Meat, Theatre503), Kay Adshead (Thatcher’s Woman, Paines Plough/Tricycle Theatre), Jon Brittain (503Five), Brad Birch (503Five), Brian Waters (National Theatre) and newly discovered writer Ben Worth.

Previously Posted: On April 8, 2013, Margaret Thatcher proved that in death, as in life, she could still divide the nation.

In response to the national conversation surrounding her death, Theatre503 has invited writers Dan Rebellato (Chekhov in Hell), Fraser Grace (Breakfast with Mugabe), Judy Upton (Ashes and Sand) and Daily Telegraph theatre critic Dominic Cavendish (Hacked) to write a series of short plays looking back at Margaret Thatcher – the woman, the politics and her legacy.

Thatcherwrite will run from June 11 to June 15, 2013.

Thatcherwrite has been curated by Theatre503’s Literary Manager Steve Harper, who said of the project:

“No other figure in living memory has been the catalyst for such divisive expressions of emotion – honoured by the pomp and regalia of a ceremonial funeral whilst mocked as a burning effigy on makeshift funeral pyres. Love her or hate her, her unique achievements were many, her personality etched onto the history of this country, for good and for bad. She was a game changer, leaving the country and the political landscape she inherited irreparably altered.”

Theatre503 is well known for its series of new plays written in response to the changing world around us. Previous seasons have included Hacked – in response to the phone hacking crises, Coalition – examining the current UK government, and Decade, a look back at the events that shaped the naughties.

Tickets: £12, £9 concessions – available from the box office on 020 7978 7040 or online at www.theatre503.com/.

Time: 7.45pm.

Playing With Grownups runs at Theatre503 from May 14 to June 8, 2013.
