The Butterfly Lovers - Blue Elephant Theatre

THE Blue Elephant Theatre’s next in house production is a new adaptation of the ancient Chinese legend, The Butterfly Lovers. Specifically for children aged 5 -8, it runs from April 1 to April 19, 2014.

Under the reign of the evil Emperor Hu, girls are forbidden to go to school, but Zhu disguises herself as a boy to do so. There she meets Liang, and together they change China forever.

This is Blue Elephant Theatre’s first children’s production since Noah’s Ark in 2011, which was shortlisted for’s Award for Best Production for Young People.

Blue Elephant Theatre is committed to supporting emerging artists and The Butterfly Lovers marks the first professional production of work by writers James Chamberlain and Jason Yu. An earlier version was performed at Tara Arts in May 2012 with the support of the Confucius Institute.
